BMMB lends support to plight by Asia’s first crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim
Bank Muamalat was moved by the recent plight by Asia’s first crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim by offering RM10,000 for his medical bills. Presenting the cheque on behalf of Bank Muamalat at the Beacon Hospital in Petaling Jaya was our Deputy CEO, Encik Musa Abdul Malek. Kamal Affandi said he was extremely moved by the show of support and concern by Malaysians.
Kamal was recently diagnosed with a life-threatening brain disorder, known as Artery and Vein Malformation (AVM), where the condition leads to an abnormal cluster of arteries and veins, which places pressure on the brain. He is currently recovering from a state-of-the art procedure known as Cyberknife technique.
Kamal is well-known for his public talks on how to combat crime as well as his consultancy work with the police force. During the cheque presentation he remained upbeat over his condition and has undergone a series of treatments at the Beacon Hospital, where he is currently warded.
He said before he was diagnosed with the disorder he was initially told that it was a stroke. It was only after a CT scan and MRI of his brain did the doctors diagnose it as AVM.
Kamal Affandi has already completed his first session. He will have to undergo a total of 121 hours of laser treatment to treat the AVM. Kamal needs RM40,000 for the procedure.
He had posted on his Facebook page that he was willing to conduct free public lectures for those who helped with his medical fee. Malaysians, upon learning of his plight, responded swiftly and donations came in via corporate donors as well as private well-wishers.
We pray that he recovers well soon.
